Noosa Residents & Ratepayers Association Introduce Water Rates Project Officer
Complaints about water rates have not gone away so Noosa Residents & Ratepayers Association has appointed fellow member and volunteer, Sue Kingston as Water Rates Project Officer, to provide support to community members.
Sue is one of many who has experienced issues with local water and so understands the frustrations and distress that these can cause. She also represents NRRA on the Unity Water's Customer and Community Reference group which should provide a two-way communication liaison link. Latest Unity Water news updates can be viewed on: www.noosaratepayers.org.au
Sue explains, “In my experience I found I had to deal with constant circular communication loops, getting nowhere fast! I realised just how extra challenging this painful process would be for those who are not used to dealing with layers of bureaucracy or who may not have the advantage of computers and email technology.
Attending a Noosa Residents & Ratepayers meeting at which these issues were raised by members, I decided to accept the invitation to become NRRA’s Water Rates Project Officer and to apply to become the the NRRA's representative on the Customer and Community Reference Group which has been set up by Unitywater to assist with improving customer relations between consumers and Unitywater. I have been willing to take this role on in the hope that better communication links will help to ensure that our ratepayers receive the assistance they need and in a timely manner.
(Acting) President Tony Haslam says, " Ratepayers who have experienced an unresolved problem or issue with their water rates billing, can email their story to: waterrates@noosaratepayers.org.au. If members do not have access to email, they can call me on 5449 8118 and I will pass the information on." Ratepayers can meet Sue at the next Meeting of the group on Tuesday, May 31st, 5.45pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran College where guest speaker, Cr Russell Green, will discuss the diverse range of Council services, give updates on current community consultation activities and respond to questions from the community.
NRRA has asked Cr Green to respond to a pre-submitted question, “What is the view of Noosa ratepayers about the option for Council to take back control of water rate billing and what is Council’s view to this complex issue?”
