NSRRA Constitution Update
After many years (established in 1981!) NSRRA Inc. is updating its constitution in line with the most up-to-date version of the Office of Fair Trading Model Rules. Basically, we have adopted all of the recommended Model Rules and inserted the appropriate Objectives and Classes of Membership that relate our organisation.
The NSRRA Objective inserted in the Model Rules is as follows:
The object of the Association is to exist for the benefit of residents of Noosa Shire taking action on any matters that affect them including, but not limited to:
(1) acting as an advocate for them at local, state, and federal levels;
(2) lodging submissions, correspondence and petitions and participating in meetings, forums and reference groups;
(3) providing information to the community via newsletters, media releases, social media, the Association’s website and any other form of communication; and
(4) advocating to protect the amenity of the built environment of Noosa Shire; for the protection of the natural environment; and for sustainable and ecologically sound development within Noosa Shire.
The Membership Classes are:
(1) The membership of the Association consists of ordinary members aged 18 years and older, whose principal place of residence is in Noosa Shire, and the following class of member:-
(a) life member (no more than one to be appointed per year).
(2) The number of ordinary members is limited to the number of residents of the Noosa Shire aged 18 years and older.

Sunshine Coast Waterways Authority Bill 2026
NSRRA put in a submission and made a presentation at the public hearing on the proposal to establish a Sunshine Coast Waterways Authority Bill. A copy of our submission can be read or downloaded below.

NSRRA supports the premise of the DMP, which correctly identifies the community’s opinion that the tourism sector has unsustainably expanded at the expense of residents’ interests. However, we are concerned Council’s response fails to outline how this imbalance will be effectively addressed.
Many of the proposed DMP initiatives seem designed to raise further revenue for Council from the tourism industry, yet it remains unclear how this will control tourist numbers or mitigate the impacts of ‘overtourism’.
Our detailed submission can be found below.

The debate continues over whether Noosa Council should or will continue to fund the marketing organisation Tourism Noosa. NSRRA has weighed in with a resident perspective. Our letter to all councillors and the response from the Mayor can be read or downloaded below.

Although the Minister has given assurances that developments will only be approved if they fit within the Noosa Plan we feel it’s imperative to reinforce that assurance by letting the Minister know we consider the current SFD proposal for Tewantin should never be approved. Our submission can be found and downloaded below. Please feel free to copy, sign and send the attached submission to let the State government know the Noosa community rejects development which avoids Council assessment and rides roughshod over resident concerns. (Submissions close 10 March 2025)
